Kumamoto · Kyushu
Kurokawa Onsen is a hot-spring village in the Kumamoto mountains built around onsen-hopping: a single pass costing ¥1,500 for adults and ¥700 for children admits you to any three of the ryokan baths, which take non-staying visitors between 8:30 AM and 9:00 PM. There is no railway — it is roughly two hours by bus or car from Kumamoto, and about the same from Hakata. Autumn, when the valley turns, is the busiest season.
Usual hours — confirm with the official site for holidays + seasonal closures.
