Since the January 2024 earthquake and the fire that destroyed the historic Asaichi-dori street, Wajima's 1,000-year-old morning market has operated from a relocated indoor space inside the Wai Plaza shopping centre, open 9:00–13:00 daily except Wednesdays. A few dozen vendors — the same fishermen's and farmers' families as before — sell seafood, dried fish, seasonal vegetables and Wajima-nuri lacquerware from stalls along an aisle, a fraction of the roughly 200 open-air stalls the market was famous for. The original street remains a cleared reconstruction site: the first rebuilt shop broke ground in June 2026 and a temporary shopping arcade is targeted for spring 2027, with no date announced for the market's full return.
Usual hours — confirm with the official site for holidays + seasonal closures.
