Kenroku-en opens 7:00 to 18:00 from 1 March to 15 October and 8:00 to 17:00 through the winter, and there is an adult admission — though entry is free during the early-morning hours before regular opening, which is the quietest time to walk it. It is one of Japan's three great landscape gardens, laid out by the Maeda lords over roughly two centuries, and its pines are rigged with yukitsuri rope cones against snow from November.
