Nebukawa Station

根府川駅

Kanagawa · Kanto

根府川駅 stands on a bluff above Sagami Bay, its pale wooden station building close to a century old, so that stepping off the platform puts the horizon of sea and sky directly ahead with nothing else in the frame. The 24.5 m Shiraito River rail bridge crosses just beside the station, and on New Year's Day the platform faces straight into the sunrise. A coastal walking route, the 'Shiosai no Eki Nebukawa/Enoura Fishing Port Course,' starts here and takes about two hours.

Why it's hidden

It is on the same main line as the Tokyo-Odawara-Atami commuter run, two stops past Odawara, but it is the only unstaffed station left on JR East's Tokaido Line — nobody built anything around a stop this ordinary trains barely need to serve.

Admission
No admission — a working railway station. You need only a valid ticket or IC card to pass onto the platform. It is the only unstaffed station on the JR Tokaido Main Line within the JR East network.

How to get there

On the JR Tokaido Main Line, two stops past Odawara toward Atami — about 90 minutes from Tokyo by local train. The station sits on a cliff above the sea, with mountains behind it toward Atami and Sagami Bay directly in front.
