Senjogahara is a high marsh plateau in Nikko National Park crossed by a raised wooden boardwalk, with the usual through-walk taking about two and a half hours. It is free and never closes, but there is no rail access: the Tobu bus on the Yumoto Onsen line takes about 65 minutes from Tobu-Nikko or JR Nikko Station to the Sanbonmatsu trailhead, so the bus timetable rather than the trail sets the shape of the day.
Usual hours — confirm with the official site for holidays + seasonal closures.
