Momijidani Park

A free, always-open park in the valley behind Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima, on the walking route to the ropeway up Mount Misen. Hundreds of maples fill the valley and turn deep red from mid-November, which is when it is famous and crowded; the rest of the year it is a quiet, shaded stream valley where the island's deer gather, and the least busy corner of Miyajima.
