Kanagawa · Kanto
Established after the 1859 opening of Yokohama's port to foreign trade, this is the largest Chinatown in Japan and one of the largest in the world, packed into roughly 500 restaurants and shops behind ornate paifang gates like the Zenrinmon and Choyomon. The district still centers on the Kwan Tai Temple, dedicated to the deified general Guan Yu, and remains the beating heart of Japan's ethnic-Chinese community.
